Personalised Growth ART · 1:1 mentoringMentoring for the child. Guidance for the parent.
Growth that continues at home.
When a child is struggling, working with the child alone may not be enough
Children need a safe space to express what they may not yet know how to say. Parents also need support to understand what may be happening beneath the behaviour and how to respond differently at home.
Personalised Growth ART brings both parts together through individual mentoring for the child and practical guidance for the parent.
Growth ART may be suitable when your child or teenager is experiencing:
- Low confidence or negative beliefs about themselves
- Frequent anger, frustration or emotional outbursts
- Difficulty expressing feelings or asking for help
- Withdrawal, worry or reluctance to talk
- Friendship difficulties, bullying or social struggles
- Repeated conflict with parents or teachers
- Difficulty coping with mistakes, failure or academic pressure
- Loss of motivation despite effort and encouragement
- Difficulty managing change, disappointment or expectations
- Behaviour that keeps recurring despite repeated correction
The purpose is not to label the child or focus only on stopping the behaviour. We seek to understand what the behaviour may be communicating and help the child develop safer, more confident ways to express, cope and move forward.
Art provides another language
Some children find it difficult to explain their inner experiences through direct conversation.
As the child chooses, creates, makes mistakes, solves problems and responds to guidance, meaningful conversations can emerge naturally. The artwork is not analysed or judged. It becomes part of a safe, creative process through which the child can:
- Express thoughts and feelings
- Experience choice and ownership
- Work through frustration
- Develop confidence in their abilities
- Practise responding to challenges
- Discover different ways to communicate
- Recognise their own strengths and progress
The goal is not to produce perfect artwork. The goal is to help the child experience themselves as capable, heard and able to grow.
Two sides of the same growth
Child mentoring
Your child receives individual attention in a calm and encouraging environment.
Through art, conversation and guided reflection, we help the child become more aware of their feelings, needs, choices and responses. The pace and approach are adapted to the child rather than following a fixed lesson plan.
Parent guidance
Parents are supported to understand the child's needs, patterns and progress more clearly.
Elfin provides practical guidance on how parents can communicate, set boundaries and respond in ways that support the child's growth at home. Because lasting change is strengthened when the adults around the child understand how to support it.
From reaction to respectful strength
Reaction
We begin with what can be seen: the child's behaviour, emotions, repeated struggles and the situations that trigger them.
Revelation
Through expression, conversation and reflection, we explore what may be happening beneath the reaction: the feelings, fears, needs or beliefs the child may not yet know how to communicate.
Respectful strength
The child is guided to express needs, manage responses and make choices with growing confidence and respect. Parents are guided to lead with calm strength, remaining connected without removing necessary boundaries.
What a support cycle includes
- Up to 60 minutes of one-to-one Growth ART mentoring with the child
- Up to 15 minutes of parent consultation or guidance
- Preparation based on the child's current needs and family context
- Brief documentation of relevant themes and progress
- Practical suggestions for supporting growth at home
The parent consultation may take place before or after the child's session, or be arranged separately when a private conversation would be more appropriate.
Respecting the child's safe space
Trust is important in helping a child feel safe enough to open up.
Parents will receive relevant observations, progress themes and practical guidance. However, not every word shared by the child will automatically be repeated.
If a child shares information that raises concerns about their immediate safety or the safety of another person, the parent or appropriate responsible adult will be informed.
Four steps, one journey
Parent conversation
We begin by understanding your concerns, what you have observed and what you hope will change for your child and family.
Personalised child mentoring
Your child attends individual Growth ART sessions designed around their current needs, interests and pace of development.
Parent guidance
Elfin shares relevant observations and helps you consider how communication, expectations, routines or responses at home may support the child's progress.
Review and next steps
We review what has been noticed, what appears to be helping and whether continued mentoring or another form of support would be appropriate.

A mentoring and developmental-support programme
Growth ART is a mentoring and developmental-support programme. It is not:
- Art therapy delivered by a registered art therapist
- Psychological counselling or psychotherapy
- A medical, developmental or psychological assessment
- A diagnostic service
- A replacement for professional mental-health or medical care
When a child requires clinical, psychological, medical or specialist developmental support, parents will be encouraged to seek an appropriately qualified professional.
Before you enquire
Does my child need to be good at art?
No. Artistic ability is not required. Art is used as a gentle medium for expression, reflection, confidence-building and growth.
Will my child bring home artwork?
Your child may create artwork during the sessions, but completing a polished piece is not the main objective. The focus is on the child's experience and development.
Must a parent attend every child session?
Parents do not need to remain in the mentoring space throughout the child's session. Parent consultations may be conducted before, after or separately, depending on what is appropriate.
How many sessions will my child need?
Every child and family is different. Some may benefit from a focused five-session pathway, while others may need a longer period of support. We will discuss the most appropriate starting point after understanding your concerns.
Will you tell me everything my child says?
Parents will receive relevant observations, progress themes and guidance. At the same time, the child's need for emotional safety and appropriate privacy will be respected, except where there is a concern about safety.
Can Growth ART diagnose ADHD, autism, anxiety or another condition?
No. Growth ART does not diagnose developmental or mental-health conditions. Please consult an appropriately qualified professional if an assessment or diagnosis is required.
They may need a different way to be heard, understood and guided
Growth ART creates a space for the child to grow while helping the parent lead with greater understanding, calm and confidence.
